Special features of the meeting included: the application of computers to the lower urinary tract, urethral sphincter EMG in women with urinary retention, and urethral electric conductance.

There were poster sessions which ran throughout the length of the conference and on the last day, 11/4 hours were devoted to reviewing all the posters.

The focus of the meeting included sessions on electrophysiology and other investigational techniques, basic science, psychology, interstitial cystitis, the elderly and treatment of incontinence.

At the Gala Dinner, Eric Glen, who demitted office at this meeting after serving as honorary Secretary for the first 15 years of the ICS, received a standing ovation and the gift of a splendid claret jug, and was awarded Honorary membership of the ICS.
