Emerging International, multidisciplinary research team grant application
(ICS Emerging Team)
The objective is to facilitate the development of international collaborations by providing financial support for new international, multidisciplinary research partnerships, which are defined as partnerships between at least two International Continence Society (ICS) members representing different disciplines, institutions and countries.

Criteria
The proposed collaborations and projects must be:
  • multidisciplinary (involving more than one specialty, healthcare profession or scientific discipline) and involve a partnership between more than one institution from at least two different countries, and
  • consistent with the directives and priorities of the International Continence Society’s Scientific Advisory Committee.

Examples of multidisciplinary collaborative teams include partnership of a physician with a physiotherapist, partnership of a nurse with a basic scientist, partnership of a urologist with a gynaecologist.
Collaborators may apply together as co-principal investigators, or as a team with one principal investigator and one or more co-investigator(s).

Amount
  • Up to GBP 10,000 in funding can be awarded.
  • Funding can be used to cover travel expenses for team meetings, meeting fees, preparation of grant applications and other related expenses.
  • Funding does not cover salary support for the Principal Investigator (PI) or co-investigator, technical materials, support for technical staff, laboratory studies, diagnostic studies, mailing and postage for questionnaires or any other related materials, nor patient vouchers for transportation, meals, etc.
  • ICS does not provide funds directly to researchers but rather to the institution/organisation with which the nominated PI is affiliated, usually as an employee. The institution holds the funds and maintains an ICS grant account from which the researcher can draw.

Selection
A subcommittee of the Scientific Advisory Committee will determine the eligibility of each application. The winning application will be one which represents important research and follows the guidelines and rules governing the award (hyperlinked to another document) of the Scientific Advisory Committee’s subcommittee. Should the International Continence Society approve the application, the applicants agree to acknowledge the International Continence Society’s support in the subsequent major grant application, and to report to the International Continence Society on that submission and its outcome. Should the applicants, for any reason, decide not to submit a grant application as initially planned (and as indicated in the original ICS supporting grant application), they will be liable for returning the funds provided by the International Continence Society within 12 months of the grant deadline.

In the event that there are two meritorious grant applications with budgets that together amount to less than the GBP10,000, the committee may decide to award both grants.

In the event that there are no applications considered meritorious by the committee, no grant will be awarded that year.
