Public Awareness Strategy
Preventing and treating fistula is one of the three priority objectives of ICS, as stated in the society’s three year strategic planning document approved by the board in early 2009. The committee was recently created in order to organise ICS action in this important field which is believed to affect at least 2 million women and girls worldwide. The aim of the committee is to contribute towards eradication of vesicovaginal fistula, especially among the disadvantaged in remote and rural areas worldwide.

Aims
The committee aims to address the need for information about Fistula in the developing world in the following media packs:
  • Basic Awareness Package - Pictorial basic information (cartoon style) aimed at non-literate communities
  • Community Care Package - Simple texts on fistula prevention and care for community workers
  • Press Package - Factsheets for generating awareness worldwide

Reaching Out to Local Communities in the Developing World
The ICS Fistula Committee has created 9 zones around the world particularly where vesicovaginal fistula is particularly prevalent. While resources are developed initially in English, the long term goal of the committee is to produce information packs in different languages used in the developing world.

Help with translation
Medical professionals able to help create translations of the media packs and other resources should please contact the ICS Fistula Committee to discuss how you can help us.
