This year’s free advanced-level workshop run by the ICS Ethics Committee is entitled Ethical Issues in Professional and Research Practice: A Case-Based Interactive Workshop.

Three case studies will be presented, discussed and debated by the participants. In this novel approach toward didactics, the room will be set up in a round to better enhance dialogue that will be guided by questions from the moderators. Faculty include Nina Davis, Elise De, Ruwan Fernando and Rjuji Sakakibara. The Ethics Committee is especially honoured to welcome special guest discussant Ms. Suzy Elneil, Urogynecology Consultant at University College Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London. Suzy Elneil is a renowned expert in female pelvic reconstruction and Chairwoman of the Board of the Fistula Foundation. She will provide insight onto the challenges and politics of funding gynaecologic care for women in developing countries, a perspective honed by many years treating patients with fistula and injuries related to genital cutting.

The other topics of discussion are “’Salami’ and Other Problems in Medical Publishing” and a geriatric case study, “Treat the Patient, Not the Age!”. These are both issues of global concern. It is anticipated that these topics will stimulate healthy debate and engender consensus regarding possible solutions. Please join us and be prepared to share your experiences, opinions and passion for ethics! Participation at the Ethics Workshop will be limited to 35 to optimise attendee involvement.

This session is free will therefore be operated as first come, first served.
