ICS 1994

Convenor: Michael Halaska

Scientific chair: Tomas Hanus

Venue: Prague Congress Centre, which opened in 1981 as the Palace of Culture now owned by the city of Prague and later incorporated the holiday Inn Hotel and a business centre

This meeting in the wonderful historic city of Prague was most memorable. The ancient King Charles University, the square and its ancient clock and across the River Vltava to the Cathedral Church of St Vitus, burnt at the stake for his beliefs in the 6th century AD.

The scientific committee under the chair of Tomas Hanus upgraded the software programme initially developed around 1986 to assist the mammoth task of scoring the abstracts and arranging the programme for the meeting. These were a fore-runner of the sophisticated system developed since and refined by Dominic Turner from the ICS office, for both the receipt of abstracts and for the final scoring, ranking and developing of the final programme.
