Abstract

Hypothesis / aims of study
To introduce an urodynamic classification of male patients with symptoms of overactive bladder and the analysis of outcome, and to study the clinical significance about the four clinical categories.
Study design, materials and methods
From January 2015 to January 2016,126 male patients were enrolled who diagnosed clinically with overactive bladder and underwent preoperative urodynamics study.Male OAB patients can be stratified into four groups based on the presence or absence of involuntary detrusor contractions, the ability to abort contractions and the ability to contract the urinary sphincter in response to contractions. The preoperative urodynamic data of these 126 cases were analyzed. The contents of this study also included the basic information, the preoperative and postoperative scores of the OABSS and IPSS scales, and the amount of the underlying diseases, and then the outcomes to illuminate the clinical significance of the urodynamic classification of male patients with symptoms of overactive bladder were performed.
Results
A total of 126 male patients were enrolled in this study.Of these cases 32(25.40%), 27(21.43.%), 59(46.83%) and 8 (6.35%) were categorized as classes I to IV, respectively. The data of height showed no statistical significance(P>0.05)and the date of age, weight,BMI,the discrepancy scores of the OABSS and IPSS scales and the amount of the underlying diseases showed statistical significance(P<0.05).The type IV has the worst prognosis and the type III has the best, then followed by type I and type II.

Concluding message
The type IV has the worst prognosis and the type III has the best. And this classification system will certainly have a profound significance to guide our diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of the patients with overactive bladder.
