Alex Digesu, MD, PhD works at the Urogynaecology Department of St. Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College of London, UK. He completed his medical education and Obstetrics and Gynaecology training in Italy from the Bari University followed by his PhD in Oncological, Gynecological and Geriatric Surgery from the same university. His clinical experience includes a full training in obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive medicine. He completed a five year fellowship in Urogynaecology in London at King’s College Hospital under the supervision of Prof. Linda Cardozo and St. Mary’s Hospital under the supervision of Mr. Vik Khullar. He has been trained in Urogynaecology and his area of expertise is the assessment and management of patients with lower urinary tract symptoms and pelvic floor dysfunctions. His research studies include assessment, management and care of patients presenting a broad range of pelvic floor dysfunction including overactive bladder syndrome, urinary incontinence, bladder pain, urinary and bowel symptoms, urodynamics (saline, video and ambulatory urodynamics), 2D and 3D ultrasound imaging of the lower urinary tract and pelvic floor. He has also studied the pathophysiology, assessment and management of pelvic organ prolapse. Since he completed his training, he worked as Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Consultant in different University teaching Hospitals as well as District General Hospitals in both Italy and Switzerland. He is also an Honorary Consultant in Neurourology, at Beata Vergine Hospital, Mendrisio, Switzerland. He is member of the Editorial Board of the International Urogynaecology and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction Journal as well as Neurourology and Urodynamics Journal. He is member of the International Consultation of Incontinence Research Society (ICI-RS). He is author of more than 80 articles published in peer review journals.
