I work as a Nurse Consultant (for Bladder and Bowel Care) professionaly and clinically leading services for this client group for the county of Devon in England. Devon is the second largest county in the UK with a population of nearly 800,000. So a lot of potential patients. My team of 16 includes nurses and physiotherapists and we work closely with Urologists, Gynaecologists and Colo-Rectal Surgeons in local Acute Hospitals. We see patients with all types of bladder and bowel dysfunction including sub-specialities as erectile dysfunction and pelvic pain.
My own particular sub-speciality interests are bowel dysfunction and neurgenic bladders. The latter is due to my previous life as working as a ward sister in neuroscience care.
My qualifications include an MSc, a formal teaching qualification, and qualifications in neuroscience nursing.
I have the distinct qualification of having worked for 12 years with James Malone-Lee who trained me to be a Uro-dynamacist and who made me "what I am". I also have the honour of teaching Adrian Wagg when he was new to the field.
I am currently half way through my PhD.
Why I want you to vote for me:-
For the past 5 years I have been the Chair of the Nursing Education Sub-Committee. Due to this I have a unique (for nursing members) understanding of the politics of the ICS. I have lectured around the world on bladder and bowel dysfunction and have met many wonderful nurses in many countries. Because of this I am also aware of the huge gap we have in continence care in some parts of the world. I would like to represent nursing on the board in order to be the voice of nursing for all members. I promise I will be challenging and vocal and ensure that the ICS becomes the natural home for nurses universally.
I want to represent nursing as a clinician who is also a clinical researcher and educationalist. I am proud that I still see patients and understand their problems as well as that of nurses who care for patients with bladder and bowel problems on a daily basis
