MedIT Ltd
Southmead Hospital, Bristol BS10 5NB

Senior Development Consultant
For 3 years I worked as the senior development consultant for MedIT Ltd, a dynamic software development company with markets in the Pharmaceutical Industry and National and International medical institutions. I oversaw projects and product development from initial requirements through product design and architecture, functional and technical specifications, development, implementation, documentation to delivery, implementation and support. I ensured that these projects were delivered successfully, on time and on budget. These projects ranged from developing a membership website including online payments and an Abstract Processing System for handling and reviewing scientific papers for an International Medical Society to producing an online call tracking system for a large software vendor’s support department website. After the acquisition of MedIT by Wealden Computer Systems I managed many diverse projects including developing a Time and Accounting system using the latest .NET technology for a premier firm of Solicitors in Westminster.

October 1999 - March 2001
Academy Information Systems, CAPITA PLC
Manvers House, Trowbridge, Wilts.

Pre-Sales Technical Support Manager
As a local government software supplier (Council Tax / Benefits/ Revenues / Housing), this management position enhanced my knowledge of business development and revenue generation. Close interaction with both customers and development staff allowed me to be customer focussed in the marketplace, marrying corporate revenue stream requirements with the aims of customers. I was responsible for technical responses to tenders, working closely with 3rd parties (Call Centres / Document Image Processing) to integrate products into customer solutions. My responsibilities included providing a technical resource for their sales teams, for both pre-sales, demonstration and (implementation) project management. I also certified as a Sun Reseller.

March 1997 - October 1999
GEAC Computers Ltd
Almondsbury, Bristol

Senior Analyst Programmer
This position involved the management of many Oracle, Sybase, Ingres, Open Ingres and Microsoft SQL Server databases for many of the major financial institutions around the world. In addition to the housekeeping, administration and security of these sites it was also necessary to write scripts and analyse issues, which arose from their market leading financial product [SmartStream Reconciliations]. Working closely with the development team to identify and resolve bugs, implement code hotfixes, feature requests and performance improvements. An appreciation of customers’ applications and systems, as well as an understanding of their function as financial institutions, was essential in order to provide the best support and advice possible. In addition to this role I spent the last year managing critical projects for GEAC:-

September - December 1998
GEAC Computers Inc.
Paramus, New Jersey USA

US Secondment
As part of the worldwide rollout of SmartStream Reconciliations, I was sent to the USA to set up and run a support office for GEAC. The aim of this support desk was to provide local support to our US customer base and to provide assistance to US management interviewing and training US Support analysts and technical implementation specialists. I also spent time on-site at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce performing database administration consultancy (performance/capacity planning/disaster recovery).

January - July 1999
GEAC Product Centre
Almondsbury, Bristol

Development Secondment
For six months I was seconded to GEAC SSR development to work on a performance review. The deliverables of this project included establishing the performance criteria of the application architecture, analysing the business use of the product and providing solutions to these problems. A high degree of technical knowledge of the client / server / middleware environment was needed as well as an understanding of the business issues involved.

December 1996 - May 1997
Telewest Communications PLC
Woking, Surrey

VMS Support Analyst
This promotion allowed me to develop my skills at system administration. After working in Bristol for the most profitable franchise in the TeleWest group I moved to Woking to the corporate headquarters providing business and technical resources to the 6 franchises in the TeleWest group. This included disaster recovery, billing support and financial reporting. I was closely involved in moving the PLC to daily billing.

October 1995 - December 1996
Telewest Communications S.W / United Artists
Almondsbury, Bristol

M.I.S. Operations
The S.W franchise is geographically one of Europe’s largest cable franchise areas covering 20 million telephony and cable television subscribers. M.I.S (Management Information Systems) supported six hundred plus users over four offices. The position held involved VAX/VMS support and Ingres systems management, including writing SQL & DCL scripts, Billing, Ingres V6.1/CA Open Road, system security, Polycenter Tools, DBAnalyzer, and general user queries. The operations department was responsible for billing / auditing / call reconciliation / SWITCH data import and maintenance of the Subscriber Management System. I was also personally responsible for the Emergency 999 database (held on site as part of OFTEL franchise requirements) and all Data Protection Act enquiries (liaison with Telecoms Intelligence Unit of Avon & Somerset Constabulary).
