 About Istanbul

Turkey’s magnificent past of 13 successive civilizations spanning 10,000 years has infused a land full of historic treasures. Even if you spend only a short time in Turkey, you can see much of this great heritage. Although renowned for its mystery and history, Turkey is also a rapidly modernising country with a prime location; one foot in Europe and one in the Middle East. Thus Turkey retains its fascinating differences, and its contradictions: mosques coexist with churches, and remnants of the Roman Empire still stand alongside ancient Hittite and Neolithic sites. An immensely rewarding place to visit, not least because of the people, whose reputation for friendliness and hospitality is richly deserved.

Istanbul is an exciting mix of the Oriental and state-of-the-art modern. It's the country's cultural and commercial centre and also visibly the old imperial capital, although it could take months of exploration to truly do it justice, from the moment one arrives in Istanbul its magic is undeniable.
