ICS 1976

Convenor: Bo Coolsaet

Eric recalls: “The 6th ICS Meeting he chaired was in Antwerp in 1976 and was so successful that there was a shortage of hotel accommodation. Several of us arrived from a Standardisation Committee meeting in Copenhagen, a little later than most, and found our pre-booked rooms had been re-allocated. Eventually I was given a family room with the warning that two others might arrive later. That did not appeal, so I wedged the door shut with a chair under the door handle. Whether others tried to enter I know not- the standardisation meeting had been as mentally exhausting as usual and I slept well. There was no such problem when Bo and wife held open house on their magnificent estate during the social programme. The enormous barn or former stables in their grounds held everyone with ease and the hospitality was impressive.”
Norman Zinner recalls:
“There was also the marvellous concert using ancient musical instruments at Bo Coolsaet's farm house held outside his barn with hay showing in the opening to the barn loft and listening to a sound both unusual and beautiful. I recall hearing crumhorns for the first time.”
His group developed concepts of the origin of ‘detrusor instability’ based on the demonstration of micromotions in the detrusor detectable experimentally and clinically.

Dr Coolsaet and his wife were congratulated for organising a splendid meeting. Eric Glen noted: “I doubt if many could emulate the Coolsaets who entertained the entire conference complete with guests, to a special dinner and musical night at their magnificent home.”

The Welcome Reception was in the form of a concert at the Vleeshuis Museum.

The Annual Dinner was held at the Antwerp zoo!!
