Sender Herschorn

The ICS Board of Trustees are pleased to announce that Sender Herschorn is the winner of the ICS 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award. This award was created to honour an individual who has made a lifetime commitment and a lasting contribution to the advancement of science, education, clinical practice or public awareness in the field of continence.

Completing his urology training at the University of Toronto in 1978. Sender is currently Professor of Surgery/Urology at the University of Toronto and has worked for the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre at the university since 1979. His career has been focused on functional urology, urinary incontinence, reconstruction, neurogenic and non-neurogenic lower urinary tract disorders. Sender set up the infrastructure at Sunnybrook with a video-urodynamic facility, surgical techniques and technologies, urologic colleague and a fellowship programme to facilitate management of these conditions. He has spent countless hours in educating students, residents, fellows, urologists, other specialists, family doctors and patients in incontinence and LUT disorders.

Doctor Herschorn is an honorary member of the ICS having completed his term of office as General Secretary in 2014. He won the Zimskind award from the Urodynamics Society in 1998 for leadership and continuing excellence in neurourology and the lifetime achievement award from SUFU in 2010 for contributions and leadership in the field of voiding dysfunction.

Sender’s research is primarily focused on many aspects of urinary incontinence and functional disorders. In 2016 he successfully obtained $2 million of industry and private funding to establish the University of Toronto Research Programme in Functional Urology, the first of its kind in Canada.

Sender Herschorn’s contribution to the ICS and research to the field of urinary incontinence and functional disorders warrants the ICS Lifetime Achievement Award which the Board of Trustees will present to him during our annual meeting in Philadelphia, in 2018.
