This week's hall of fame member is Joan Ostaszkiewicz.

Name: Joan Ostaszkiewicz

Profession: Nurse (Specialist/Advisor/Practitioner/Academic)

Biography: Dr Ostaszkiewicz is a Registered Nurse and the Director of Aged Care Research at the National Ageing Research Institute in Australia. Joan's clinical and academic expertise is in the management of incontinence in frail older adults and in designing, developing and evaluating workforce models to promote evidence-based nursing practice to enhance the quality of care for people who are care dependent. Joan's PhD and postdoctoral work resulted in a new conceptual approach to continence care for people with complex health conditions who are incontinent or who require assistance to maintain continence.

Why are you an ICS member: I joined ICS in order to attend one of its conferences, to present research. This professional organisation meets my academic requirements to maintain access to and involvement in scientific research at the highest level within my area of academic clinical expertise.

Which was your first ICS meeting: Montreal, 28th August - 2nd September 2005

Special ICS memories: The ICS conference in Montreal in 2005 was awe inspiring and extravagant: Fireworks, clowns, amazing food and at a great location. I recall sitting outside on the grass chatting to a person whose work I had read and really connecting.

Biggest influences: Professor Mary Palmer (USA) and Professor Jan Paterson (Australia)

The one paper (or book/article/video) you must read/view: The ICI book is essential reading.
