The Southern Brazilian Congress of Urology 2016 took place in Curitiba (Brazil), from 23rd to 25th June with over 400 attendants, including urologists, residents, nurses, and physiotherapists. This event brought together urologists from the three southern states of Brazil: Parana, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.

The ICS Neuro-Urology Promotion Committee was represented by Prof. Emmanuel Chartier-Kastler (Paris-France; NUPC Chairman), Prof. Juan Carlos Castaño (Medellín-Colombia) and Prof. Márcio Averbeck (Porto Alegre-Brazil). Their sessions covered:

  • Prof. Averbeck, coordinator of the Functional Urology Workshop, which was based on clinical case discussions and multidisciplinary approach.
  • Prof. Emmanuel Chartier-Kastler presented an ICS Guest Lecture on the management of detrusor overactivity in patients with spinal cord injury.
  • Prof. Castaño presented an engaging lecture entitled ‘Is there any indication for sacral neuromodulation for patients with neurological diseases?’.

The ICS speakers also took part in the plenary session (June 24th and 25th), presenting lectures on overactive bladder syndrome and post-prostatectomy urinary incontinence, which were highly regarded by the audience.

In addition to the ICS lectures, the congress also counted on the cooperation of the American Urological Association (AUA) and the International Neuro-Urology Society (INUS). An AUA Highlights session took place in the plenary on June 24th, bringing the latest advances presented during the AUA Meeting in San Diego (May 2016). Prof. Fernando Kim (Denver/USA) and Prof. Helmut Madersbacher (Innsbruck/Austria) were the official representatives of the AUA and INUS, respectively.
