Oxidative stress is a potential contributor to inflammatory signaling and lower urinary tract (LUT) pathology. While the link between inflammation with cellular damage is not well established, recent evidence suggests that elevated oxidative stress over time could play a pivotal role in the pathophysiology of LUT dysfunctions (especially in the older adult). This round table will discuss the impact and mechanisms underlying oxidative stress in LUTS with a focus on the older adult and a minimally invasive approach to monitor regions of ‘oxidative stressed’ tissue that could be used in diagnosis and management of LUTS patients.
