Abstract

Introduction
Colpocleisis is an underutilized procedure in combating advanced pelvic organ prolapse in non sexually active women [1]. Success rates range from 90 to 100% with high patient satisfaction rates [2].
Design
We present an 81 year old female with a history of recurrent and symptomatic pelvic organ prolapse. Physical exam was remarkable for complete procidentia. Given the patient’s symptoms which interfered with her daily activities, non-surgical and surgical options were presented. Patient is not sexually active and is not interested in being sexually active in the future, leading her to choose colpocleisis as her surgical option.
Results
The patient presented a favorable postoperative outcome. After one year of follow up, the patient's symptoms resolved.
Conclusion
LeFort colpocleisis is a favorable treatment option for recurrent pelvic organ prolapse. The procedure can be offered to non-sexually active patients especially those with other comorbidities due to high success and low complication rates. The addition of levatorplasty can give added support to prevent recurrent prolapse.
