Chronic pain is a complex condition which can affect any pelvic organ in people through all age groups regardless of gender and race. The diversity of its clinical manifestation and often massive impairment in quality of life challenges specialists from many disciplines. What is required, is a holistic approach which is often lacking due to poor understanding of the involved mechanisms, structures and their interaction. Therefore, this workshop primarily focuses on the involvement and interaction of pelvic and neuronal structures in the evolution of chronic pelvic pain and elaborates onto interdisciplinary strategies to holistically approach the problem.

Learning Objectives

  • Presentation of the updated and internationally accepted taxonomy of chronic pelvic pain states & Discussion of different pain mechanisms and pathophysiology of chronic pelvic pain.
  • Elucidation of the relationship between LUTD and chronic pelvic pain and discussion of the importance of improving/restoring bladder function in patients with chronic pelvic pain.
  • Relationship between chronic pelvic pain and pelvic mesh & Importance of a holistic management of chronic pelvic pain patients
