Hypothesis / aims of study
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a key risk factor affecting the total health status and quality of life of many people, either on the individual or the family level. It significantly impacts social and economic development of families. Refractory ED poses great clinical challenge to the urologist. The possibility of having Penile prosthetic operation provides huge opportunity for the management of ED. This study is aimed at assessing the sexual satisfaction among patients who receive a penile implant for their ED and to also identity the associated factors for improvement in erectile dysfunction among them.
Study design, materials and methods
This questionnaire-based study was done by using the standard, “International Index of Erectile Function” (IIEF) questionnaire. This investigation included 57 consecutive patients, who had undergone penile prosthetic implant surgery over a two-year period. The implant specifically used and evaluated in this study is the malleable penile implant.
Interpretation of results
80.7% of participants always or almost always were proficient at acquiring an assembly during their sensual activities, and 71.9% of participants always or almost always could get an erection, which was sufficiently hard for penetration. 75.4% almost always or always had satisfactory sexual intercourse whenever they attempted.
The mean ± SD of ED scores among the post penile prosthetic patients was 23.56+1.17 and was not significantly associated with any of the socio-demographic and health related characteristics.
