She is a Consultant Gastroenterologist with a special interest on Inflammatory bowel disease, Early detection and anal cancer prevention and Neurogastroenterology (pelvic floor). She has developed her clinical activity in Portugal and in the UK were she previously worked as a Senior Fellow and as a Locum Consultant at St. James University Hospital, Leeds. She currently works in Porto, Portugal. In 2019, she completed her PhD and has multiple publications, including as first author in The Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Journal of Crohn’s and Colitis, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, Clinical Infectious Diseases, British Journal of Cancer and the International Journal of Cancer. She serves as an Editorial Board member of the journal BMC Gastroenterology and the World Journal of Gastroenterology, and as an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Medical Research. She has also served in several Committees, Task Forces, Working Groups and International Society Boards in the last years. She is currently a Board member of the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS), a member of IPVS Early Career Working Group and a member of IPVS Social Media Task Force. She has moderated and chaired sessions in international conferences, as the IPVC2023 and the UEG 2023. She has organized and moderated international symposiums and workshops, namely two Special Interest Symposiums at IPVC 2021 and IPVC 2023 and an IPVS online workshop entitle “How to use social media to promote your career” in 2023. She has an extensive clinical experience in working with patients with bowel disfunction, namely with fecal incontinence and in performing endoanal ultrasound and anorectal manometry. She was a Member of the International Continence Society Committee on male anorectal dysfunction terminology and has several publications in this field.
