Montserrat Espuña-Pons is a Senior Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Chief of the Urogynaecology Unit at the Hospital Clinic (HC), University of Barcelona, Spain. The Urogynaecology Unit at the HC in Barcelona, directed by Dr. Espuña, was created in 1982 and pioneer in Urogynaecology in Spain, being the first Department of Gynaecology with a Urodynamic Unit. She is also an Associated Professor in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Barcelona, Spain, being involved in research related to Urogynaecology since 1988 and resulted her PhD thesis in 1992 on applicability of Urodynamics in women with urinary incontinence. Since 2012, ultrasound of the pelvic floor conducted by Dr. Ros, was incorporated into the functional study in the diagnostic procedure and also a pioneer in the field nationwide. Since then, one of our e research lines merge image and function in the diagnosis of urinary, faecal incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse. Dr. Espuña-Pons, has led throughout her professional life various research projects with public and private grants in the field of Urogynaecology last one, was an as a partner and co-investigator with responsibility of clinical leader, the project "WOMENUP: COST EFECTIVE SELF MANAGAMENT OF URINARY INCONTINENCE ADDRESSED TO WOMEN ACROSS EUROPES ”, funded from the European Commission H2020-PHC-2014, which ended in June 2019. This project has generated a patent of a portable biofeedback device. She is founder and first secretary and chairwomen until May 2016 of the Pelvic Floor Section at the Spanish Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics (SEGO) She is active member of many national and international societies related to the Urogynaecology, has been chair of the Research and Developemment Committee of the International Urogynaecological Association (IUGA) (2007-2010) and member of the Scientific Committee for the International Continence Society (ICS) from 2010- 2014.
