Following the ICS Annual Meeting in Tokyo, the Education Committee with new Chair, Elise De, have been busy working on the workshop programme for ICS 2017. As highlighted by Frankie Bates in her recent article, the education committee had many choices from this year's exceptional workshop submissions! In total, the committee received over 74 submissions of which 34 were selected. Some of the workshops accepted were: Confirmation surgery in gender dysphoria: current state and future developments, Step by Step Basic Neurourology Teaching: Diseases Specificities, Phenotyping BPS/IC for clinical success and Chronic Fibrosis in Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunctions—Mechanisms and Therapeutic Options. You can view all of the final selected workshops here on the ICS website. You can also explore the workshops by using the search function, searching by category or profession.

We are pleased to confirm that registration for the ICS hands on surgical cadaveric training is now open! This Urinary Incontinence surgical training weekend in the centre of Bristol, England, is a unique opportunity to get exposure to a range of training and surgical techniques surrounding stress and urgency urinary incontinence. You will have several hours of practice on the fresh frozen cadavers covering such topics as synthetic and non-synthetic treatment of stress urinary incontinence, BOTOX into the bladder and sacral neuromodulation placement for urgency urinary incontinence. This course is aimed at senior trainees about to start their consultancy position or early career consultants. To register click here.

In addition to the ICS 2017 workshop programme the Education Committee has been working on this year’s educational courses and guest lecture schedule. The ICS Education Committee was already represented at the recent PACS event, represented by David Castro Diaz and Dudley Robinson. We also have 6 other courses planned for this year, namely:

  • ICS Guest Lecture at EAUN
  • ICS guest lecture at the meeting of the EAU section of female and functional urology (ESFFU)
  • ICS education course in conjunction with ISUS and CRFU-WG advanced masterclass on anatomy and surgery using fresh-frozen cadaver
  • ICS collaboration with AUA
  • ICS education course at SIUD
  • Joint SIU-ICS session 37th Congress of the Société Internationale d'Urologie

The committee are currently reviewing a number of additional international applications. Keep your eye out for ICS events near you on the ICS calendar! If you are involved in, or know of a meeting happening in your country and you would like the ICS to hold an Add-on Course there or provide a Guest Lecture, please contact Avicia Burchill at the ICS office on avicia@ics.org for more information or to apply download the ICS course information and guideline pack.

We have also relaunched the ICS recognised courses programme! If you run a regular course then why not consider getting ICS recognition? Course organisers are provided with a certificate stating that the programme conforms to the ICS standards thus giving an internationally recognised seal of approval. The ICS will also provide assistance marketing the recognised course to the ICS membership and beyond. All ICS approved recognised courses are valid for 3 years.
