Ian is a Consultant Urogynaecologist in the Stirling Royal Infirmary where he commenced employment in February 2008. His main professional interests are Urogynaecology and Post Graduate Education. For the previous 15 years Ian worked in the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow where he set up and headed the Urogynaecology department and where he was the Training Programme Director for the Subspecialty Training Programme in Urogynaecology.
During that time Ian was the Medical Director of the Continence Resource Centre and the National Helpline for Scotland which is housed within the Southern General, but which is a major resource for both treatment and training within the West of Scotland and beyond. Every year the Centre runs the very successful ‘Scottish Task Force on Incontinence’ annual meeting.

Ian has published over 20 papers on a variety of Urogynaecological topics, and has an active interest in research going back to his time as a Research registrar with Paul Hilton in Newcastle. His main research interests are the conservative and surgical treatment of urinary incontinence.

Ian has just completed 7 years as the Secretary and Treasurer of UKCS – The United Kingdom Continence Society (formerly ICS(UK)), and in 2005 was Chairman of the Societies 12th Annual Meeting in Glasgow. He is also an active member of the ICS, IUGA and BUG Societies and has the honour of being Chairman of the 2011 ICS meeting that has been awarded to Glasgow.

For 3 years Ian was the Urogynaecologist on the Editorial Board of ‘The Obstetrician and Gynaecologist’ – The RCOG’s continuing Education Journal and has just finished a 3 year term as Chairman of the RCOG Examination EMQ subcommittee and member of the Examination and Assessment Committee. Ian was the Course Organiser of the West of Scotland Part MRCOG course 1994 – 2003 and 2006 - 2008.

Ian’s outside interests are the Pre Raphaelite School of painting, 14th century ecclesiastical architecture and the works of Dostoyevsky. Actually that’s a lie they are drinking wine, playing music and watching Manchester United!!
